About me

A little about me, first and foremost, I am a mother of two amazing humans.  I have been married for over 20 years and family is the most important aspect of my life. I am an immigrant from Mexico and I love my Mexican culture.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor.  I am a Registered Play Therapist and EMDR Certified, Approved Consultant.  I have worked in the mental health field for over 8 years.

I love working with children, adolescents, and adults.  I have a passion for working with parents because, as a parent myself, I know parenthood can be challenging.

My clients often come to me because they want to learn how to support their child or teen who is struggling.  They want to do things differently than how they were raised.  They want to break cycles and teach their children/teens that support is avaiable and it is ok to not be ok sometimes.

There is no manual to tell us how to parent.  As a parent myself, I have tried and failed many times. There have been many times when I've met with parents who are desperate to help their children. Throughout my work with children and teens, I have learned that the more I am able to teach parents the skills I have learned, the more likely it will be to obtain the outcome of strengthening the bonds between parent and child. The number 120 is significant. That is the amount of hours parents have each week with their children. We know that 120 is greater than 1.  I could either choose to provide parents with the skills I have learned as a play therapist, a counselor, and a mother, so that they could utilize those skills during the 120 hours they have each week with their children or I can work with a child for less than 1 hour a week. Which do you think is more successful?   I have seen that first hand, whether it be collaborating with parents when working with their kids in play therapy or by providing psycho education about child development, trauma and other psychological concerns. When I provide parents with the information they need and encourage them to utilize the skills, their relationship with their children is often strengthened.  My passion for working with families is what drives me  to do this work. My clients come to me to better their relationship with their children and families.  I work along side parents to help them support their children that are struggling.  I help parents learn about things like ADHD, depression, and anxiety in children and teens. If this sounds like the collaborative approach that is right for you and your family,  I will be happy to help.

I also have extensive experience working with trauma.  I have worked with people who have been affected by domestic violence and childhood sexual abuse.  I have also worked with people affected by depression, anxiety, suicidal ideation, and non-suicidal self injury. I utilize evidenced based treatment in my practice.

Whew, that was a lot! If you read through it all, I hope that you can feel the passion I have for the work that I do.
